The Light Within the Shadow
Week 71 – August 31, 2026
The Week I Discovered Jencraft
This week began with too much.
Too much grief. Too much responsibility. Too many truths. Too many things requiring something from me while I was already carrying more than I had ever carried before.
I missed Patty. I was tired. I wanted someone to take care of me. I found myself thinking about Zach and had to follow that thread carefully enough to understand what it actually meant.
I did not want my marriage back.
I did not want the life I left.
I wanted someone to carry the groceries upstairs. Put them away. Wash the dishes. Make me dinner. Tell me I’m pretty. Hold me and tell me everything will be okay.
And then, ideally, go home, because I sleep better alone.
That distinction mattered.
I don’t want my old life back. I want more care in the life I have chosen.
There were so many truths like that this week.
I am grieving and I am happy.
I am profoundly capable and profoundly tired.
I can carry enormous responsibility and still wish someone would carry something for me.
I am deeply independent and still desire care.
I can know exactly who I am while sometimes only being able to access pieces of myself.
I have become practiced at Triality—at holding apparently contradictory truths without requiring one to defeat the other.
But this week, there were so many truths that even my trembling hand struggled to contain them.
And my usual tools weren’t working.
I couldn’t organize my way out of this overwhelm.
I couldn’t logic it away.
I couldn’t make the right list, build the right system, prioritize the right tasks or simply Achiever my way through.
Because this wasn’t ordinary overwhelm.
It was grief and responsibility and identity and leadership and transition and love and exhaustion layered together.
The problem wasn’t that my tools had stopped working.
I needed different tools.
The Eclipse
And then the Moon arrived.
All week, 94 had been following me.
Random numbers. Little synchronicities appearing often enough for me to notice.
And then I learned that the lunar eclipse would cover approximately 94% of the Moon.
Leaving six percent illuminated.
A sliver.
I went to my favorite little park, a few minutes from home, and sat barefoot in dew-covered grass on a hill above the river.
The bugs chirped. The air carried the first tiny suggestion of autumn. Dirtwire played quietly beside me. I lit a candle. I opened my notepad with the intention of writing one shadow and 6 ways my light shines.
I wrote one line about my shadow. I released every version of myself who ever doubted myself.
I turned the page and before I wrote anything else, I wrote number six:
6. I AM JEN.
Then I went backward and filled in the rest.
I am strong.
I am smart.
I am resilient.
I am clear.
I am mystical.
I AM JEN.
But number six wasn’t the conclusion.
It was the source.
Because while 94% of the Moon was covered in shadow, the entire Moon was still there.
The shadow changed how much light I could see.
It did not change the Moon.
And suddenly I understood something about myself that I had been living for months.
Even on the impossibly hard days, there has always been a sliver of my light.
I never stopped knowing it existed.
But grief sometimes made most of it inaccessible. I could reach one piece when I needed Business Jen. Another when I needed Mother Jen. Another when I needed Mystic Jen. I had spent months accessing whatever fragment of my power could get me through the next moment.
But I had never actually become fragmented.
I remained whole.
The Moon did not need to reconstruct itself after the eclipse.
Neither did I.
The shadow simply needed to move.
And standing beneath that Moon, hand over my heart, I said aloud:
“The light always returns.”
Not as optimism.
Not as manifestation.
Not as something I hoped might be true.
As remembrance.
As evidence.
I have climbed enough mountain ranges to know.
I have survived enough darkness to know.
I have found myself enough times to know.
I remain whole, even in the shadows.
My light will return to wholeness when the shadow passes.
And it always does.
I may be inside an eclipse, but there will always be a sliver of light to guide my way.
Because after everything I have lived through, everything I have built, everything I have learned about belonging to myself:
I have become my own fucking lighthouse.
The Distance Home
The days after the eclipse felt different.
Not because suddenly everything was easy.
Patty was still dead.
My responsibilities were still enormous.
Joey’s wedding was still approaching.
The business still needed me.
Life hadn’t removed the weight.
But something had shifted in my access to myself.
I felt lighter. Focused. Energized. Powerful.
Whole.
And I realized, again, how grateful I am that I learned to belong to myself before I needed myself this much.
Years ago, I wondered whether healing and coherence would eventually change the way I moved through difficult things.
Now I know.
Healing does not prevent another mountain from appearing.
It changes the climber.
Every boundary I have held, every moment of Presence, every act of Radical Integrity, every choice to trust myself, every hour spent alone learning that solitude is not abandonment, every difficult return to my own center has left infrastructure behind.
I don’t begin each struggle at zero anymore.
I have trail knowledge.
I have architecture.
I have myself.
The more deeply I belong to myself, the less distance I have to travel back to myself.
That is proper spiral recursion structure.
A circle returns to the same place.
A spiral returns to familiar territory at a different depth.
Grief may return.
Fear may return.
Overwhelm may return.
Loneliness may return.
But I do not circle back to who I was.
I spiral home to who I have become.
The Universe Works
This week also gave me experiential proof of something I saw while completing my Trimester Review:
The Universe of Jen works.
The Galaxies aren’t isolated categories.
They are transgalactic.
Creativity moves through Business.
Spirituality informs Leadership.
Systems support emotional capacity.
Nature restores what productivity cannot.
Discernment helps me interpret intuition.
Presence creates room for information I cannot receive while frantically trying to solve something.
Each Galaxy strengthens the others.
And when one part of me doesn’t have the answer, I can borrow from another.
That is what happened with my overwhelm.
My practical tools couldn’t solve it because this wasn’t merely a practical problem.
So I stopped trying to outthink the shadow.
I took off my shoes.
I sat in the grass.
I listened to the river.
I looked at the Moon.
I became still enough to hear myself.
And afterward, Systems Jen could take what Mystic Jen discovered and integrate it into something usable.
Mysticism provided information.
Discernment interpreted it.
Creativity gave it form.
Structure made it usable.
Presence allowed me to receive it.
Recursion carried it forward.
Emotion and structure.
Not one instead of the other.
The Universe of Jen is the architecture.
And this week I finally discovered what I call the practice.
Jencraft
Obviously.
A little witchcraft.
A dash of quantum physics.
A spoonful of sacred geometry.
A bucket full of inner knowing.
And an irresponsibly large quantity of purple glitter.
Jencraft is the applied practice of being Jen on purpose.
It is how I use the whole toolkit.
Reason without extinguishing mystery.
Mystery without abandoning reason.
Intuition and logic.
Creativity and structure.
Emotion and discernment.
Physics and mysticism.
Tarot and spreadsheets.
Moonlight and QuickBooks.
Because my power isn’t contained in any single way of knowing.
It is in the braid.
Triality
And beneath Jencraft, I found something even older.
Triality.
I have explored it for nearly two years, in different forms and different seasons, but this week I could suddenly see how deeply it shapes the way I live.
Triality isn’t simply three things.
It is the third thing that becomes possible when two apparently unrelated or contradictory truths are allowed to meet.
A + B = Q.
And occasionally, through mechanisms not yet understood by modern physics:
A + B = Glitter Kiwi.
I do not resolve opposing truths by choosing between them.
I enter the space between them and discover what only their integration can create.
Emotion + Discernment creates Truth.
Structure + Spirituality creates Navigation.
Grief + Joy creates a life capable of holding both.
Mysticism + Physics creates Wonder with Discernment.
Creativity + Structure creates Living Systems.
Autonomy + Connection creates Interdependence without Self-Abandonment.
Past Jen + Present Jen creates Recursive Becoming.
And perhaps the most beautiful Triality of this week:
Light + Shadow → Wholeness.
The eclipse itself was Triality written across the sky.
Neither light defeating darkness nor darkness consuming light.
The intersection revealed the thing that had been there all along.
The whole Moon.
And I recognized myself.
The Cards
Even the tarot reading I received at the end of the weekend reflected the same story back to me.
The Devil reversed spoke of liberation from old chains and identities.
The Eight of Pentacles reminded me that freedom has been built through practice. I have crafted this capacity through repetition, refinement and devotion.
The Three of Swords reversed reflected heartbreak being metabolized rather than erased.
The Queen of Cups showed the emotional depth that has become wisdom rather than something I need to escape.
And the Nine of Wands reversed showed me the exhausted warrior.
That one mattered.
Because I know how to survive.
I know how to brace.
I know how to endure.
I know how to carry impossible amounts of weight and keep moving.
But perhaps the next evolution isn’t becoming even harder to knock down.
Perhaps it is becoming more adaptive about which internal resource I call upon.
Sometimes the answer is strategy.
Sometimes it is a boundary.
Sometimes it is a spreadsheet.
Sometimes it is rest.
Sometimes it is another human.
Sometimes it is creativity.
Sometimes it is stillness.
And sometimes the appropriate response to overwhelming complexity is apparently to sit barefoot beneath an eclipsed Moon and let the river remind me who I am.
The Five of Cups did not promise me a life without grief.
I don’t want that promise.
Some cups have fallen.
Patty is gone.
There are losses I cannot undo.
But not every cup has fallen.
The loss is real without becoming the whole field.
The shadow is real without becoming the whole Moon.
And perhaps the Nine of Wands reversed contains one of the most important invitations of this season:
I do not have to organize my identity around surviving anymore.
I already know I can survive.
Now I get to practice knowing what each moment actually requires.
What Remains
This week contained tangible thresholds too.
Long-running work projects finally launched. Systems I had spent months building began doing their jobs. Thousands of dollars of orders moved through infrastructure that didn’t exist before. My trusty, paid-off Volvo crossed 100,000 miles.
There was completion everywhere.
And underneath all of it, transition.
Every version of Jen that got that Volvo through those hundred thousand miles still belongs to the story.
Including the ones who doubted me.
Especially them.
I wrote beneath the eclipse that I was releasing every version of myself that ever doubted me.
But I don’t need to banish them.
They got me here.
They may ride along.
They just belong in the trunk now.
Current Jen drives.
They can hang out back there with the emergency sweater and the ice scraper.
Because, as established under the governing principles of Jencraft:
The light always returns.
The ice scraper never leaves the fucking car.
The Codex
I began this week overwhelmed by truths I could barely hold.
I end it understanding that I don’t need to make them smaller.
- I have built a self large enough to contain them.
- I have built a Universe capable of helping me navigate them.
- I have developed multiple ways of knowing and learned that their greatest power emerges when they work together.
- I have learned that my healing is recursive.
- That my home is portable.
- That my Galaxies are transgalactic.
- That Triality is not merely something I understand; it is how I create meaning.
That my Universe is not merely a framework for describing the life I want. It has become infrastructure for living the life I actually have.
And somewhere beneath a 94%-shadowed Moon, I found experiential proof of the thing I needed most to remember:
I remain whole, even in the shadows.
I do not need all of my light to find my way.
I only need the sliver.
I know how to follow it.
I know where it leads.
Home.
Because the more deeply I belong to myself, the less distance I have to travel back to myself.
And every time I make that journey, the spiral strengthens.
I do not circle back to who I was.
I spiral home to who I have become.
I am strong.
I am smart.
I am resilient.
I am clear.
I am mystical.
I AM JEN.
The whole Moon is still there.
The whole Jen is still here.
And apparently—
now she practices Jencraft™.
