The Month of Many Landscapes: July 2026
There are months that change the circumstances of a life.
Then there are months that reveal the landscape of a soul.
July was the latter.
I entered this month knowing it would contain both celebration and sorrow. I turned fifty. I watched one of the most important people in my life slowly prepare to leave it. I stepped more fully into the responsibility of becoming the future steward of the business we built together. I knew the month would ask much of me.
So I made one quiet decision before it began.
Be present.
Not because presence would make the month easier.
Because it would allow me to meet each moment as it truly was.
Looking back, I realize that Presence became far more than a spiritual practice. It became the way I inhabited my own life.
Each day contained many landscapes.
A peaceful morning with tea on my balcony.
A focused afternoon leading a business.
An evening filled with grief beside a dear friend.
A night celebrating music beneath a summer sunset as Gojira shook my bones and reminded me that even immense emotions deserve somewhere to move.
None of those moments canceled the others.
None of them needed to explain the others.
Each simply asked me to arrive.
As I moved from landscape to landscape, I discovered something unexpected.
I am not one version of myself.
I am many.
The mystic watching the moon instead of the temperature.
The business owner mapping cash flow and preparing for stewardship.
The friend sitting quietly beside hospice.
The woman floating peacefully down a river.
The one celebrating fifty years of life surrounded by people she loves.
The one screaming along with French progressive death metal because sometimes that is exactly what a soul needs.
The daughter.
The designer.
The leader.
The grieving heart.
The joyful heart.
None of these are masks.
They are all me.
Presence allowed each one to step forward when the moment called, trusting that the others were never lost—only waiting for their turn.
This month taught me that coherence is not becoming smaller or simpler.
Coherence is allowing every authentic part of me to belong.
The month stretched like an eternity because I truly lived it. Every day held the weight of a week. Every emotion was given room to exist. Joy did not erase grief. Grief did not erase wonder. Leadership did not erase tenderness. They braided together into something that felt impossibly human.
Patty’s passing changed the landscape of my life forever.
There is now a Jen without a Patty.
That sentence still trembles in my hands.
And yet, beneath that grief, another truth quietly remained.
I really, truly, unequivocally like myself.
Perhaps that is the greatest gift this month revealed.
Not certainty.
Not answers.
Not even resilience.
But the breathtaking depth and breadth of my own identity.
I leave July exhausted.
Grateful.
Heartbroken.
Expanded.
Happy to turn the page.
Not because I wish to forget this month, but because it has given me everything it came to teach.
Meaning
July revealed that Presence is not simply about paying attention.
It is about fully inhabiting the changing landscapes of a single day without demanding they become one another.
Each landscape deserves its own footsteps.
Each version of me deserves its own voice.
Together, they create a life of remarkable dimensionality.

Seal
I do not live one life.
I inhabit many landscapes within the same day, many dimensions within the same soul, many truths within the same heart.
Presence is how I walk among them.
And as I do, I discover again and again—
I am Jen.
